Teen birthday party turns into drunken brawl

A TEENAGE birthday party had to be shut down after it descended into a drunken brawl.

The party, which was for a seventeenth birthday at Telscombe Village Hall, was shut down by organisers after youngsters started fighting.

Around 100 teenagers were at the party, some of whom had been drinking alcohol including vodka.

At around 11.20pm an argument broke out and descended into fighting amongst some of the group.

The organisers of the party immediately closed it down and police units were called from Brighton to send the youngsters on their way home.

There were no reports of injuries and no arrests were made.

Sergeant Robin Fuller of Peacehaven police said: 'I applaud the organisers for closing down the party as soon as they recognised that the party had got out of hand, however I question the fact the 17-year-old youths were consuming alcohol and the fact that once the trouble began the problem became that of the police and the residents of Telscombe village.

'Alcohol should only be consumed by persons over the age of 18 years and not be readily available to anyone under that age.

'I will be following up the circumstances in relation to the party and will take any appropriate action.'

Sgt Fuller said he would be talking to the birthday boy's parents about what happened.
