Some good news for Victor

A HERALD reader has given last week's sad story about a war veteran robbed in his own home a happy ending.

Victor Lecuyer, from Goring, fell victim to tricksters for the second time in a matter of weeks last Friday when a conman posing as a policeman violently shoved him and stole his 70 pension money.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 80-year-old was given a big hamper of food and 70 by a modest reader who only wanted to be known as Sue.

She said: "I got home last week and read the story about Mr Lecuyer in the Herald and I felt sick.

"I was utterly gutted and disgusted it had happened and I wanted to give this man his money back."

Mr Lecuyer, a signal operator during World War Two, fell and cut his cut his head when the conman ran off with his wallet.

The robbery has let him shaky and nervous but he was overwhelmed by Sue's kindness.

"I'm going to have a feast," he said.

"Thank you so much. It's very, very nice of you."

Mr Lecuyer has lived on his own since his wife died six years ago but his four children regularly check on him.

Police have been keeping an eye on his home and are helping him step up his security.

He decided to share his story with the Worthing Herald in the hope it would act as a warning to other vulnerable people.
