Slindon youngsters raise funds for Sport Relief

EACH child at Slindon C of E Primary School took 6,800 steps to raise money for Sport Relief.

They were able to count their footsteps thanks to a donation of pedometers from the Wellcome Trust.

The gift also included timers to allow them to also see they took an hour to complete a 1.2-mile circuit of the village.

All the school’s some 60 pupils took part in the event. They were joined by their parents and staff. They raised £271.85 to the delight and surprise of the school council; its members spent half an hour counting the money after they had returned to the school.

Jane Walters, the school’s headteacher, said: “Each pupil had been sponsored by friends and family to complete the walk. And the community of Slindon generously added to the charity bucket as the children processed around the village.”

The walk took place against a background of a bright blue sky to add to the cheerful mood.
