Slindon teacher told they must get on their (electric) bikes

TEACHERS at Slindon C of E Primary School got on their electric bikes.

They tested a selection of the latest human-powered cycles and an electric motor scooter during a roadshow visit sponsored by the South Downs National Park.

Headteacher Jane Walters was among those thrilled by a ride behind the handlebars.

She said: “Riding the electric bike was exhilarating. I was amazed by the power generated from a single rotation of the pedal.

“As these bikes are an economical, environmentally-friendly, healthy form of transport, I am sure they will become very popular over the coming years.

“Our pupils can’t wait to be 14 years old, the legal age to ride the bikes.”

The Smarter Choices’ sustainable transport roadshow’s staff, Jan Austin and Terry Osborne, explained to the school’s key stage two pupils why they should do more walking and cycling as well as talking about the environment.
