• This weekend sees the first of the two bank holidays in May so I hope that you will be able to spend some time with your friends and family and that the weather is kind.

• The Sedlescombe Spring Fayre committee are organising a Spring Fayre on the Green and in the Queens Head Grounds on May 11 starting at 1.00pm. The proceeds form the fayre will go to The Hospice, the British Heart Foundation and any money remaining to local good causes. This year there will be the 1066 band doing their stuff, Happy Graham, a children’s entertainer, stocks for the children to put their feet in, the Spinners showing their ancient crafts, a small roundabout and not seen to often now days - ‘hit with the hammer and ring the bell’. There will also be a fine range of food and refreshments available. There is no entrance fee but please buy raffle tickets which are now on sale around the village and on the day at just £3 a book. Look forward to meeting you there.

• Sedlescombe and District Flower club have their meeting on Wednesday May 8 in the village hall. This month there is to be a workshop; you are invited to bring along all that you need to make an arrangement reflecting spring time and as we are actually managing to get some spring like days this should fire your imagination into something you would like to display in your own home or for perhaps a gift. The sales table will be available for any thing you may have forgotten or to stock up on arranging essentials. If you rather not practice making something you are very welcome to come, meet up with your friends, get some ideas and have a cup of tea. Doors will be open from 7pm to members and visitors so hope that you will make the journey up to the hall and see you there.

• Sedlescombe Players are at it again with another production in Sedlescombe village hall, this time with the hilarious farce, CASH ON DELIVERY by Michael Cooney, is that Ray Cooney’s son? Tickets are now on sale for Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June at £9, performance only, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June £14 performance and supper. • Sedlescombe Parish Church will be holding a Coffee Morning in the Queen’s Head on Saturday, May 18 from 10am until 12 noon. You will have the opportunity to find out about the major fabric restoration taking place in the church together with the installation of a new eco-friendly heating system for which work is already in progress. A warm welcome has always been the main aim at the church on a ‘person to person’ basis but as many of you are aware, in recent years it has been necessary for you to wear your extra-thermals during the winter months, this has been enough to put many people off coming to the building as well as our regular attendees. Now it is time to let everyone know in our community and beyond that when it comes to special family occasions there will be the warmest of welcomes in every sense and that they will not sit there shivering. Do go along to look at the display boards and see for yourself the restoration taking place, members of the Fabric Committee will also be there to explain the changes and improvement to our historic church; our grateful thanks to the new Management Team at the Queen’s Head for giving us the opportunity to reach the wider community close to the village centre.

• There was a good result for the church last weekend when their jumble sale raised £460. I have had a note which says to give thanks to our local friends for your donations of jumble and also thanks to all our helpers on the day, it was a hectic couple of hours but a very worthwhile result. Well done to everyone involved.

• One of our residents Eileen Bullen would like to say thank you and good bye to the village. Thank you to all the good friends and good times she has shared here but she must also say good bye as she is moving on to a new adventure in Devon to be nearer her family. It is sad to see her leave but hope she will be very happy in her new abode.

• The St Michaels Hospice Open garden season has begun, Tuesday May 7 sees Old Battenhurst, Battenhurst Road, Stonegate TN5 7DU open to visitors from 10.30am to 4pm raising funds for this good cause. Beautiful gardens and refreshments available all day for further details programmes are available in Sedlescombe Stores.
