The blaze again took place just off the B2145 and though initial reports were of another barn fire, it turned out to be burning hay.

Speaking at just before 10am on Saturday, August 1, a West Sussex Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: “The initial call was that it was a barn fire but it turned out to be burning hay which we are still dealing with.

“One appliance was sent and it’s in the same place as the fire 48 hours ago, though not in a barn.”

The fire on Thursday saw ten tonnes of straw set alight in an open-sided barn which was allowed to burn out.

The fire service said it was believed to have been started deliberately.”
