While still at an early stage, the project is expected to see a new cafe and function space built somewhere in The Salts Recreation Ground near Marine Parade.

The idea has been put forward by Impact Seaford, a group set up to regenerate the town’s tourism trade.

Councillor Paul Franklin, who sits on the group’s board, said, “The expression of interest highlights some of the work that Impact Seaford has been undertaking.

“We are keen to explore the options that may be available to create an iconic destination venue, which will enhance Seaford’s existing visitor appeal as well as providing new facilities for the local community and businesses.

“I would urge any developers interested in this opportunity to get in touch ahead of the April 22 deadline, as we seek to make our vision a reality.”

The group, which is part of the Government’s Coastal Community Fund, is backed by Lewes District Council, Seaford Town Council and the Seaford Chamber of Commerce.

In a project document, the group says it hopes to build something similar to the East Beach Cafe in Littlehampton.

The document states, “It is considered that this site provides a high-profile location for an iconic facility, augmenting existing outdoor recreational facilities at The Salts Recreation Ground and providing a focal point to offer clearly defined linkages with beach and sea-based activities.

“The aim of this development is to act as a catalyst to encourage greater usage of the seafront by local residents and visitors alike, as well as additional future external investment.”
