The team were on hand when store manager Iain Fraser open the new shop in The Street, which includes an enhanced fresh food and bakery range, and is the result of a £460,000 investment. The Scouts will receive a £200 donation as a thank you.

The larger store replaces the Co-operative’s existing outlet with a sales area of around 2,500 sq ft.

Claire Twine, manager of the North Parade store in Horsham, brought the site of The Coach House to the community retailer’s attention via the business’ ‘Suggest-a-site’ scheme, which encourages members to suggest potential locations for new stores.

Mr Fraser said: “We’re excited about welcoming customers into our new store. The Co-operative is a community retailer and we are committed to playing a real role in local life. I’m delighted to welcome children from the 1st Cowfold Scouts to share in our special day, and to play a key role in the opening.

“The store will also work to foster real community partnerships and we are piloting a new Community Pioneer role with a member of the store team, Sophie Dean, who will spend time developing stronger involvement in community activities. Local groups can also talk to Sophie or a member of the team to find out more about how they could benefit from The Co-operative’s Community Fund.”

The opening hours of the new store will be 7am until 10pm every day.
