Samantha gets the chop for cancer charity

Samantha Yeeles-Sorrell had 11 inches cut from her flowing locks in front of scores of friends, family and supporters at Ninfield’s Reading Room last Thursday (May 9).

Samantha’s hair has been sent to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides real-hair wigs for children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Real-hair wigs for children are not currently available on the NHS.

Samantha, who lives in Elizabethan Close in Hooe, decided to go under the scissors after her roller skating teacher also had the chop for a similar cause.

There were cheers and applause as Ninfield-based hairdresser Beverley Harman chopped off Samantha’s two thick ponytails, before styling the remaining hair.

Proud mum Sarah Yeeles said the Ninfield Primary pupil took everything in her stride. Sarah said: “She was fine until mummy started crying because she was so proud, then Samantha started crying.”

As well as donating her hair, nine-year-old Samantha managed to raise almost £412 for the Little Princess Trust.

Sarah has thanked all the people who packed into the Reading Room to support Samantha on her big day, including parents and children from Ninfield School and Ninfield Toddler Group.

She also thanked Ninfield Stores, who donated a raffle prize and held a sponsorship form in the shop, Veronica Sargent from Pampered Chef for donating a raffle prize, Kirsten Britt who did some face painting on the day and Happy Days Party Hire for sending a Hello Kitty mascot along to the event.

Sarah said: “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for their generosity.

“I’m really grateful.”
