Safer walk to school for Eastergate pupils

Work which lasted three weeks will allow the school's pupils a safer route to their classes.

Costing 21,000, the scheme included a new footbridge being built over a stream and improvements to the paths either side of the new bridge.

The work resulted from the school travel plan, where parents voiced their concerns about the school entrance in Church Lane being a danger to their children.

This was especially the case when congestion created by cars at drop-off and collection times was worsened by the lack of a footpath in Church Lane.

Local county councillor Derek Whittington, who is in charge of the council's strategic planning and transport services, said the work was vital for the whole community as well as for the school's pupils.
