Stoolball : The Ladies played at Hooe last Tuesday with the hosts batting first we started well with Sarah Clark[2-6] taking a catch from her second ball and the next ball saw Melinda Mackay take a catch to leave the hosts on 1-2 from three balls but they recovered with a thrid wicket partnership of 158 between Jill[43n.o.] and Becky[89n.o.] to finish their 12 overs on 159-2. An opening partnership of 53 between Sarah[28] and Lisa Fifield[28 retired] gave us a good, although slow start with 5 overs gone we struggled to keep up the run rate with Abigail[12], Sophie Turner[12], PennyClark[1], Melinda[15n.o.], Jack Dean[3] and Claire Hatter[13n.o.] all trying but lack of boundaries saw us finish 25 runs short. Thursday[3rd] saw the Mixed host Pett on a glorious evening at The Clappers. Pett chose to bat and lost their first wicket in the first over as skipper Richard Apps held onto a catch from Abigail Fifield’[1-31] 2 overs but a second wicket partnership of 48 between Barry[39] and Anya[31] steadied their innings before Barry was bowled by Sarah[1-12]. The next over saw ‘butter fingers’ Shawn Green take a catch from Keith Apps’[1-9] bowling and then Shawn[1-10] bowled Janet[8] with the visitors on 82-4. Anya finally sucumbed in the 10th over caught by Phil Green from the bowling of Graham Clark[1-7] and in the final over Nicky[29] was caught by Shawn off the bowling of Ian Kitson[1-8] as Pett ended their 12 overs on 132-6. The reply was solid with Sarah[19] and Graham[39] putting on 43 before Sarah was bowled and when Penny[7] was run out in the next over we were 56-2 but Abigail[9] joined Graham to put on 29 before she was caught and then Richard[0], Graham and Ian[1] lost their wickets to leave us on 90-6 but Lisa[16n.o.] and Phil[43n.o.] took us to an 18 run win. On Sunday the Ladies went to Icklesham but the weather intervened and the tournament was cancelled at 11.30a.m. This Sunday[13th] is Civil Service Mixed Tournament @ 10.30a.m. at The Polegrove, Bexhill while on Tuesday[15th] the Mixed team are away to Scorpions @ 7p.m. at Claverham College.
