Age Concern is still looking for a chairman or joint chairman to enable the group to carry on serving the 20+ members who attend each Monday. The main respo0nsibility would be to oversee the different areas that are vital to ensure the smooth running and viability of RAC. The time that you would actually spend on a Monday is up to you but it would be very helpful to do frequent visits to see what is involved at the meetings.

If you might be interested and would like to learn more please pop in to Robertsbridge Hall on a Monday or ring 880511.

The new refuse service, personally for me is working well. The first week was a bit up in the air but no problems since. I do hope I am not speaking too soon. This Monday 21st July is Black Bin refuse for those that may still be a little confused. This is according to the email alert that I have been receiving.

As we are all aware this year is the Centenary of the start of WW1, the War Memorial could do with a little bit of a facelift. The Parish Council are getting quotes to have the lettering re-furbed where needed and also the clock face needs repairs to the glass. What is needed is a `cherry picker` and what I am asking for is if anyone in the village that has one could help out. A long shot I know but if there is, could you please contact Karen Ripley the Clerk of the Parish Council.

Also I would like to do some fundraising to help with the funding of the work and to maybe have enough to sort out the small garden area around the clock tower. There are many old village names on this memorial with many families still living here, please will you help show that they have not been forgotten. 4 months until Armistice Day in November, lets get started. If you would like to help by making a donation or running an event or helping in any way please either email me on [email protected] or again contact Karen on [email protected] Look out for a raffle in One Stop as Anne and Bonita have kindly said they will run a raffle to get things started. Many thanks in advance.

Stoolball: The Mixed travelled to Catsfield on Tuesday[8th] and despite the weather we started in the rain with the hosts batting first and Melinda Mackay[1-12] took a wicket in the first over aided by a catch from Keith Apps. Keith[1-16] bowled the second over and took a wicket helped by a catch from Shawn Green but a third wicket partnership of 50 between Scott[76] and Katie[21] was broken when Josh Lewis[1-12] caught and bowled Katie. Keith took his second catch from the bowling of Sophie Turner[1-17] to dismiss Scott while Rachel[22n.o.] and Paul[24n.o.] saw the hosts finish their 10 overs on 173-4. Ian Kitson[11n.o.] and Sophie[8n.o.] got us to 20 before the rain stopped play for the day. The Ladies match at Brightling on Thursday[10th] was called off because Brightling could not get a team. The Mixed played at Civil Service’ Tournament last Sunday[13th] with Crowhurst our first opponents who put us into bat Richard Apps[11] was run out in the first over but then Sophie[20n.o.] and Ian[19n.o.] took us to 54 of the 5 overs. Wayward bowling allowed Crowhurst an easy task although Ian[1-14] caught and bowled Rachel[0] but a second wicket partnership of 32 between Gwylym[47] and Tracey[15] was broken by Richard[1-10] aided by a catch from Abigail Fifield and in the final over Gwylym was caught by Richard from Josh Lewis’[1-16] bowling as we lost by 29 runs. Catsfield were our next opponents and batting first Penny[0] was caught on the third ball but Ian[11] and Melinda[28] steadied the innings while Josh[14n.o.] and Abigail[2n.o.] took us to 71 but in reply Catsfield started with a 44 partnership between Steve[46] and Jessamy[6] before Jessamy became the first of 3 run out’s and in the final over Steve was bowled by Josh[1-25] as they won by 22 runs. Our final match was against Icklesham and this time we bowled and fielded well resulting in 2 run out’s as they finished on 70 while an opening stand of 50 between Josh[47n.o.] and Abigail[9] gave us a good start but we failed to capitalise with Sophie[1] and Penny Clark[3n.o.] falling 2 run’s short of victory. Sunday[20th] is Crowhurst Mixed Tournament[10.30a.m.] and then on Tuesday[22nd] the Ladies are at Pett[7pm.] then on Thursday[24th] the Mixed areome to Civil Service[7p.m.].

Football: Training is every Wednesday[6.30p.m.] and Saturday[1.30p.m.] at the Recreation Ground while on Monday[21st] is the AGM @ Robertsbridge Club at 7.30p.m.
