Finally our condolences go out to the family and friends of both Cyril Woodgate and Jim Barden who both have passed away in the last couple of weeks. Both were from old village families and were known and loved by many in Robertsbridge.

FOOTBALL: The 1st team were almost back to fall strength after last weeks defeat to Sedlescombe Rangers and that told with a 3-3 draw at Sedlescombe in the Premier Division of the Macron East Sussex Football League. The Bridge let in a goal from the kick-off but recovered 5 minutes later when a Jethro Warren free kick hit the woodwork and found Michael Stone six yards out to prod the ball home but 10 minutes later Rangers restored their lead. Warren levelled the score with 20 yard left foot shot and he was the instegator on 35 minutes with another free kick that found Phil Green in space to slot home for the half time lead. The second period was fairly even with neither keeper being called into action and with 10 minutes left poor marking at the back post allowed Rangers to snatch a point from an entertaining match. The 2nd team hosted Wittersham II in the 3rd Round of the Paul Mitchell Plastering Contractors Ltd Robertsbridge Charity Junior Cup. The Bridge struck first when the ball came out to Kenny Jones whose 40 yard shot flew past the keeper but from the re-start poor defending let the visitors level and on the half hour mark Wittersham increased their lead. After the break The Bridge pushed for the equaliser but failed to find the net and only a good save from Bridge keeper Nick Townsend stopped the visitors increasing the lead but as the game went on fitness told with Wittersham securing a semi-final place with two goals in the last quarter to win 4-1. Tomorrow the 1st team are away to St.Leonards Social at Tilekiln K.O. 3p.m while the 2nd team are without a game.

FRIDAY DARTS: Our last match was against Mountfield Club ‘B’ in the knockout cup at The Millers Arms. We needed to win the darts 6-1 to progress into the final which we did with victories for Dave Goodsell, Michael Stone, Gary Honeysett, Coral Giles, Guy Ballard and Andy York. There were 100+ scores for Andy[123], Michael[111,103], Pete Giles[3 x 100], Guy[2 x 100], Dave[2 x 100] and Gary[100]. We were already assured of a place in the final of the pushpenny but we confirmed our unbeaten record with a 3-0 win with victories for Coral Giles/Dave Goodsell, Michael Stone/Dave Fortsch and Alan Apps/Gary Honeysett with Dave Fortsch and Alan scoring ‘goldwatches’. Tonight is the Darts Singles at The Millers Arms 8p.m.
