Refuse staff go pink

Cakes, raffles and pink hair features in plans by refuse staff to support breast cancer awareness day tomorrow (Friday, October 31).

Employees at Arun District Council's contractor, Verdant, will have the chance to tuck into home-made cakes before they start their shifts from 6am thanks to collections supervisor Jean Smith with the help of Jan O'Sullivan and Julie Campbell.

Operations manager Wayne Goodwin will also be having a day to remember.

He will be dying his hair and beard pink after growing them for a month before having the hirsute mass shaved off. His stunt has raised some 200 so far.

A staff raffle with plenty of donated prizes from companies and individuals will complete the charitable activities.

Laura Greenfield-Parker, Verdant's business manager at Arun, said: "If anyone would like to make a donation, just phone us on 01903 734520."
