Pubs ban trouble

LICENSEES in Uckfield who form part of the town's Pub Watch scheme last week confirmed their 'get-tough' stance against troublemakers.

Members of the scheme agreed to call time on alcohol-induced crime by banning offenders from their premises.

Publicans and the police meeting at the Cock and Bull pub on Thursday last week unanimously resolved to ban people from pubs if they are arrested on the street after drinking in the premises of Pub Watch members.

Neighbourhood Constable PC Pete Cook said: 'This should send warning bells ringing in the minds of people who are intent on causing a disturbance at the weekends.

'This is about reminding people that they are responsible for their actions - both inside and outside licensed premises. Hopefully the threat of a ban for anti-social or violent behaviour will make people think twice before committing an offence.'

Chairman of Uckfield Pub Watch, Dudley Hilton, said: 'As licensees, we will do all we can to support the police in this initiative. Banning people who cause trouble in the street after they have left our premises is only one of the measures we have planned.'
