The school has been shortlisted for the Enterprise and Community Award and the Sports and Healthy Eating Award, having won the Healthy Eating Award last year.

In the Sports and Healthy Eating Award, St Joseph’s has introduced motorsport - and is just one of three specialist schools that take part in Greenpower Formula 24.

Sports leader Fairley Allen said: “Few of our learners will ever be able to drive a car on the road but through this project we can give them the opportunity to drive and to achieve in an area that they and their parents could only dream about.”

Learners at St Joseph’s come from Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and London.

The winners of the prestigious awards will be announced at a ceremony on July 5.
