New deputy leader for Eastbourne council

Councillor Stephen Holt takes over from Councillor Alan Shuttleworth, who stood down from the role but remains cabinet member for housing and continues to represent Langney on East Sussex County Council.

Councillor Holt, of the Lib Dems, said, “I care deeply for Eastbourne and its future, which is why I went into politics. This opportunity to serve our town as the council’s deputy leader is a privilege I take very seriously.

“My thanks to Alan for everything he has done during his time as deputy. This is a very difficult time, but working together, I am sure we will come through successfully as a town.”

Councillor David Tutt, leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, said, “I am delighted Stephen will be supporting me as deputy leader while remaining portfolio holder for financial services. He is already an important member of our Cabinet team and I know he will be a great asset in helping to steer our town through this challenging period.

“Alan stepped down so that he can focus more sharply on housing in Eastbourne as well as his county council duties as Shadow Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and continue to serve the residents of Langney.

“I am most grateful for his diligent work as deputy leader and very pleased he will continue to bring his experience and knowledge to bear as a cabinet member.” All other cabinet member holders retain their portfolios.
