Arun Waste Services was given permission to move its waste transfer station and materials recycling operations to a different site on the Hobbs Barn business park, in Grevatts Lane, by West Sussex County Council’s Planning Committee on Tuesday (April 5).

As part of the proposal the company will be funding upgrades to the junction on the A259, which will include a ghost island separating traffic turning into the estate and other motorists heading east, as well as contributing to the cost of extending the 40mph speed limit.

Although no residents objected both Climping and Middleton-on-Sea parish councils objected on the grounds of increasing traffic levels in the area.

Officers explained that the site would manage up to site would manage up to 50,000 tonnes of inert waste each year, resulting in a maximum of 112 lorry movements a day, which would be a ‘negligible increase given vehicles movements on the A259’.

The business processes skip waste, mostly construction and demolition materials, including, cardboard, plastic, timber, and glass.
