Police video assault interviews

BECAUSE of the age of many of the witnesses, police are having to video much of the evidence being given as they investigate the recent Egerton Park assault on student Willem Haymaker, 17.

This week Inspector Martin Mann confirmed that an assault on fish and chip shop owner Glen Fuller on October 13 is also being investigated as part of the same operation.

Mr Fuller suffered concussion after being hit round the head with a metal Bob The Builder scooter when confronted by a large group of youths outside his shop.

Inspector Mann said: "This is being investigated as part of the park incident investigation. This is being reviewed by CID and certain people will be spoken to about it.

"Because of the age of the witnesses to the park assault, they have to be interviewed by video and this is time-consuming."

He added: "I do thank the parents of all concerned - whether they are witnesses or suspects - for the support they have shown us."
