Police officers' discussion on illegal parking in Rye

High-ranking police officers will be park of a discussion on the lack of parking enforcement at a meeting on Thursday (March 3).

Divisional commander Ch Supt Di Roskilly, Ch Insps Paul Phelps and police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne will be talking to residents about policing issues at Rye Community Centre from 5.45pm.

People across Rother have been complaining for months about inconsiderate motorists and the police for allowing them to get away with parking illegally.

Ms Bourne has said previously that parking enforcement is not a priority for the police and Rother District Council are looking into the feasibility of taking control themselves.

The police meeting follows the annual town meeting organised by Rye Town Council (RTC) at the community centre on Conduit Hill the day before (Wednesday, March 2).

This is an opportunity to meet with Rye’s town, district and county councillors and discuss issues affecting the town from 6.30pm.

Town clerk Richard Farhall said: “The town meeting is an opportunity to find out what the town council has been doing on residents’ behalf over the last year, to raise and discuss issues or concerns, and to find out what the council has planned over the next 12 months or so.”

Mayor Bernadine Fiddimore will give her overview of the year, plus there will be a question and answer session for residents.

RTC will be discussing affordable accommodation provision and whether to keep the local authority’s accounts with the same bank at the town hall from 6.45pm on Monday (February 29).
