Police appeal following racist assault in Littlehampton

A tattooed man racially assaulted a shop worker in Littlehampton before fleeing the store, police have said today (Tuesday, January 22).

The incident took place at around 10.30am on Saturday (January 19) at Lidl in New Road.

A male, described as a white, between the ages of 20 and 26 and of thin build, hurled racial abuse at one of the male employees at the shop.

The suspect was detained by staff while police were called. However, he managed to escape and left the store before officers arrived.

The assailant had a distinctive tattoo on his neck, possibly of a scorpion, and was wearing a white and blue sports style jacket.

PC Ben Collins of West Sussex neighbourhood response team said: “This incident was upsetting for the victim and others in the store at the time and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who has information about who the suspect is.”
