Playden

Marion Lovell, Abingworth, New England Lane

June “flamed” in quite nicely, but lacks staying power. The clouds creep in during the mornings. Gardens and hedgerows looking lovely, and I am already enjoying roses.

The gardeners in Playden are working really hard to prepare for your visits on Saturday and Sunday 22 & 23 June. We always call it The Midsummer Gardens. Isn’t it a frightening thought that it really WILL be mid-summer and the longest day in two week’s time? Details in the next two week’s columns, or ring me on 22 26 15.

Playden W.I. will have the next meeting on Monday 10th June. This month’s speaker will be Gilly Halcron who will talk about “The History of Food and Drink and Table Manners.” Bring a Mug for the competition.

The Mobile Library will be at Poppyfield on Monday morning from 11.30 to 11.50. It is a little while since it last came, so it will be good to have its return.

Playden Church has arranged a Coffee Morning to take place in the Butter Market in Rye on Saturday 15th June from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. There will also be various stalls to tempt you.

Could you book the dates of 20th and 21st July in your diaries please? This is for the Church Summer Fete and Flower Festival. Details will be available nearer the time.

Anyone who heard Thomas Harris play at Iden recently may like to know that he will be performing at Winchelsea Church on 22nd June at 7 pm. He is a young man just at the beginning of his musical career. Two years ago he was awarded the European Piano Teacher’s Association Cup for the Most Promising Pianist of Any Age, at the Hastings Festival. Tickets are £10 available from the Post Office and at the door.

The mid-week services continue on Tuesday at 9.30 am for Morning Prayer and 3.30 pm for Evening Prayer in church.

The 11am service will be Parish Communion led by the Vicar.
