Pity it's not a leap year

Sailors with Pagham Yacht Club have been given permission to sail into Pagham Harbour this Sunday.

The event has been taking place for many years and sees a flotilla of up to 20 small boats being sailed into the harbour and mooring briefly at Sidlesham Quay.

It provides a valuable experience for local young people learning to sail in the relatively safe and calm waters of the harbour during 2-3 hours during high tide.

Backing for the journey has been given by the harbour's advisory board.

The event was allowed this month because it caused the time when the nesting birds had become fully fledged and the over-wintering wildfowl and waders had yet to arrive.

Unauthorised boating, fishing and bait digging in the harbour is banned.
