Pestalozzi students show their appreciation

STUDENTS from India, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nepal and Tibetan communities in exile showed their appreciation to Bexhill and Little Common Friends of Pestalozzi by performing a variety of songs and dance routines at an event held at St Marthas church hall, Little Common last week.

Pestalozzi International Village Trust at Sedlescombe is a registered charity whose aim is to offer a 'long term solution towards improving conditions in the developing world' through education.

They provide scholarships to 'exceptional young people from deprived areas of Africa and Asia, who could not otherwise continue their studies, after the age of 16 for a fully funded two year programme.'

Following completion of the course the students return to their home countries to help their own families and communities and take up professional training as doctors, teachers, engineers etc.

Chairman of Friends of Pestalozzi, Rene Coy said they help the students during their stay in Sussex by raising funds to help provide "necessary extras like warm clothing, technical books and special calculators."

One student, 16 year old Pratibha from India said that the students were pleased to be able to show their appreciation. She said: "It's nice to sing and dance for the people who raise money for us and it makes us feel really good to do something for them as they contribute a lot to help us."
