Alan said, “I said to my colleague, ’do you mind if I put my Spider-Man costume and cheer the kids up?’, I did and everyone was cheering and clapping.

“After that I thought, ‘we have got to do something for the families and kids who will be in lockdown for weeks’.”

The 52-year-old, who had the suit in his truck because he was going to surprise his granddaughter, said he travels across Littlehampton and Eastbourne in his customised Spider-man lorry - which cost £4,000 to design.

He said, “It’s such fun. I get builders, road workers, children, absolutely everyone cheering and screaming. All I can hear when the windows are open is ‘Spideyyyyy!’

“I go to visit people in the truck with Spider-Man music on, and give people a nice display and clap. I was in Eastbourne at the weekend. It was absolutely brilliant.”

Alan said he wanted to cheer up the children, but also raise money for the NHS at the same time.

The Property Maintenance Sussex business owner said, “I just wanted to raise money for the NHS and get them personal protective equipment.

“I’m fundraising 16 hours a day seven days a week. In total, so far, we have raised £3,000 out of the £10,000 target. It’s really good.

“Thanks to everyone who has donated, from £100 to £5. My furthest donation has come from Botswana, which is quite amazing.”
