Horsham District Council has confirmed the group of travellers – which were previously camped on Bennett’s Field and the Needles playing field – have now left Hills Farm Lane playing field.

Police directed the group to leave the Needles playing field on Friday July 24 before the travellers set up the ‘unauthorised encampment’ off Hills Farm Lane, a council spokeswoman said.

She added: “The safety and welfare of residents in our district is important to us, and whilst we have limited powers, we always take immediate action at every earliest opportunity.

“The Ccuncil will be reviewing the security arrangements across a number of sites to consider improvements to prevent any future unauthorised encampments.”
