Eastbourne Soapbox Race will help two families suffering the effects of devastating illnesses

Two Eastbourne taxi drivers are getting ready to compete in a new seafront go kart event to raise money for Eastbourne families suffering from the devastating effects or two serious illnesses.

The Eastbourne Soapbox Race is a brand new event for the town and it takes place on Easter Monday (April 13) between 10am and 4pm.

It is a fun race between homemade go-karts. It will start at Dukes Drive at 10am and finish at Helen Gardens at 4pm.

Greg Shipley, 36, and Wayne Westcott, 35, are currently building their kart. Greg is the owner of Eastbourne Minibuses and Wayne works with him. They are both former Sussex Cars drivers.

The pair will be raising money for Rosie Aldridge, whose son Alfie suffers from childhood cerebral adrenoleukodstrophy, and Dawn Sparrow and her two-year-old son Reagan, who lost their partner and father Craig Steadman to cancer last week. See tribute to Craig on page five.

Greg said, “We originally entered the race for our own enjoyment but We both know these local family’s personally and love the idea that the funds raised will be going directly to them.”
