Pavilion short-listed for architecture award

THE De La Warr Pavilion is one of eight buildings in the South East short-listed for this year's Royal Institute of British Architects Awards.

The architects for the 9m refurbishment of the pavilion were John McAslan and Partners, of London.

Some 23 projects were entered for the awards in the region - which includes not only Sussex, Kent and Surrey but Guernsey and Jersey.

RIBA Awards are judged by a regional jury, judged to be best able to respond to local contexts and use of style and materials.

The award winners in the South East will be announced on May 29.

The winners will be considered for the RIBA national awards, which are judged and presented nationally by building type.

The winners of the RIBA National Awards will be presented at a dinner to be held at the London Hilton on June 27.

The short- list for the RIBA Stirling Prize is selected following further visits to winners of the RIBA National Awards and of RIBA European Awards, which are for buildings in the rest of the EU. The RIBA Stirling Prize and other special awards will be presented in London on October 11.

Any building by an RIBA chartered member or RIBA International Fellow is eligible to enter the awards. Buildings must have been completed and occupied between January 1, 2006 and February 21, 2008.
