Park impresses High Sheriff

High Sheriff Colin Field paid his first visit to Bognor Regis and was bowled over by its only park. The sheriff was taken around Hotham Park as part of his fact-finding tour of the town's regeneration hotspots.

He lives in the north-east section of West Sussex and admitted to knowing nothing about the vital green area about to benefit from a 2.2m lottery-funded project.

'Hotham Park is the most wonderful facility. I had absolutely no idea of its history or its existence. It is a wonderful attraction and a wonderful open space for the community.

'The lottery grant for it is absolutely superb and is going to transform the area,' he said.

The sheriff also viewed the seafront site destined to become an entertainment centre next to the town hall.

'I am overwhelmed by what could be happening in Bognor. It is very exciting,' he commented.

He met the Bognor Regis Task Force manager, Richard McMann, and was escorted around the town on Tuesday last weekby Arun District Council's chairman, Cllr Graham Tyler.

'We have not had a visit from a High Sheriff in many years,' commented Cllr Tyler. 'So, I'm only too happy to show him the current highlights of living here and also lead him through our extensive plans for improving Arun in the future.'
