We respect the vast amount of work done by Eastbourne Rovers in the development of athletics in the area, and we wish them luck in promotion to Division 1 of the Southern League and the tireless work done by Sue Keen and Barry Morris and the EBR coaches.

However, the England Schools Championship is a schools event, not a club event!

It’s a ladder climbing exercise, the first event is a selection meeting for the Southdown schools (Eastbourne area schools) first two in each event go through to rep Southdown schools at the Sussex schools in June.

If the athlete comes in first in their event and reach the qualifying time or distance, they then represent Sussex schools at the National Schools Championship (considered to be one of the highest standard schools championships in the world!)

Like most sports the first point of contact of organised sport is the school, if you compare our PE and games times to European schools we have more time, and we are the only European country to have inter-school sport!

So give the six athletes who reached the England Schools Championships a cheer and the schools or colleges they came from.
