Work and expense and they'll build a road on my allotment

I WRITE concerning the proposed new development north of Littlehampton.

I am one of the allotment-holders who will lose their plot to make way for a new road, even though the existing road is good enough.

I was given the allotment only in January, after waiting four years for a plot that had not been worked for four years.

I spent about 500 on repairing the shed and buying tools, but now I am told that the plot will disappear in 18-24 months' time.

Why did the town council rent me the plot when it already knew the allotment was going to disappear in two years?

The council and Greencore have, I presume, been in contact for a considerable time, because we were told that the plans will be submitted in January next year.

When asked if the council would be giving us another site, we were told that it is the developers' responsibility, not the council's.

The only reason they need to put in a new road in Mill Lane is because the new direct road from the A27 will not be completed until 2016-2020.

Come along, town council, make sure we get another suitable site.

Les Chapman,

Wick
