Visitors enjoy some mediaeval squalor
HOW many towns have such a great Town Meeting as Rye’s on March 7?
The hall was buzzing with participation, everyone who wished had a say due to the open, encouraging attitude of our mayor and the inspiring communal spirit of the people.
Re the Make Rye Tidier agenda: let’s not go too far with that. I visit some small towns in Sussex so sedate and neat I want to get out and breathe ordinary air asap.
We want progress yes, but also to preserve our special heritage so a bit of mediaeval squalor is not amiss.
Visitors tell me they like it that way.
