Thanks for all the pavement support

WE'D like to thank the people of Rustington who came out on such a miserable day to support our better pavements campaign last month.

The Pavement Action Day, held on September 4, aimed to highlight the poor state of the pavements in Rustington, and the impact that they have on the independence of disabled people.

Cracked, neglected pavements and a lack of dropped kerbs not only pose serious barriers to wheelchair users and people with restricted mobility, but also older people and parents with pushchairs.

The Pavement Action Group, who live at Leonard Cheshire Disability's St Bridget's residential service in Rustington, will present a letter and a map of "pavement hotspots" to West Sussex County Council in November, asking them to fix Rustington's pavements as a matter of priority, and make our village accessible for all.

If readers would like to support the campaign and sign the letter, please e-mail [email protected] or call 07738 033029.

Tom Carney, Jackie Postance, Ernie Roberts, Jan Thorpe, Daphne Allsop, Zoe Markham, The Pavement Action Group, St Bridget's, Ilex Close, Rustington

NOTE: All letters must include a name and address which can be withheld by request.
