At a time when buying online has become the norm, the children of St Mary’s C of E Primary School in Horsham decided to do it ‘the old fashioned way’.

With a healthy donation of £1,000 from the Home School Association and a generous discount from Waterstones, over 200 children made their way to their local store to browse and choose books to restock the school library.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience with several commenting that ‘it was great that everyone got to choose a book themselves instead of other people choosing for us.’

Many children also grouped together to buy complete sets by their favourite authors. Others said ‘it was nice to buy a book you could see first,’ but the most common comment was how much they enjoyed looking at books together, sharing their favourites and choosing from such a wide selection, an experience you certainly don’t get online.
