Pouring cash into Bexhill

In last week’s paper you revealed the capital expenditure by Rother District Council in the last decade and highlighted how spending in Bexhill has been double that in the rest of the District. You said that a RDC spokesman had explained that with a population of 40,000 in Bexhill out of a total of 90,000 in the whole District the funding weighting ‘was to be expected’.

Of course it is! Doesn’t it make absolute sense that 44 per cent of the population gets a mere 69% of expenditure, while the remaining 56% benefit from a generous 31%? Remember, that’s not down to a short-term blip but it is over a whole decade - 10 long years of pouring cash into the Bexhill backyard. They’ve been throwing our money into this financial black hole for so long it is, of course, to be expected.
