Alzheimer’s Society will be hosting a Dementia Open Forum, aiming to identify what the priorities for the estimated 14,038 people living with dementia in West Sussex.

This forum is the starting block to creating a Dementia Action Alliance, which could see members of the alliance take actions to improve their services for people with dementia.

Jacquie Pond, Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Action Alliance Co-ordinator, said: “We want to encourage all communities to become dementia friendly. It is not just about the services and support available to those with dementia, but also increasing understanding of what people with dementia and their carers need.

“It is also a chance for businesses, shops, emergency services and doctors – to name a few – can help make their services more dementia friendly.

“Dementia Action Alliances aim to bring about a society-wide response to dementia and encourages communities and organisations across England to take action to enable people to live well with dementia and reduce the risk of costly crisis intervention.”
