LETTER: Confusion for No. 12 bus users

With reference to the recent letter from Littlehampton Town Council regarding the future of our No. 12 bus, this matter is causing a lot of confusion and dismay among regular users.

The majority of passengers are elderly residents who do not have their own transport and rely on this bus to get to the supermarket, doctors surgery, library and the seafront, yet it seems that the new service will leave us all stranded but because there is money available from big developers the bus will serve the two big out-of-town developments, the majority of whom are car owners.

If councils are to allow supermarkets to be built out-of-town then consideration should be given as to how people are to access them.

We all realise that there are financial constraints so has a reduced service not been considered either not so often through the day and/or not run every day – we know the service is more popular in the morning than the afternoon and more during the latter half of the week.

We do not necessarily need an hourly service as long as there is a reliable one that will enable us to reach the essential services.

It would have been nice if the passengers views had been sought at the beginning of this exercise but maybe it’s not too late!

We look forward to the final decision with bated breath – perhaps with a bit of warning and not have it sprung on us at the last minute.
