News of the council’s draft environmental plan further improves the future for Eastbourne residents.

Whilst other councils continue in their relentless asset stripping which is a sure fire route to a self-imposed poverty trap, EBC are being proactive in providing future choice to the problems budget constraints cascaded down from central government create.

No doubt there will be objections to the creation of our own “Garden of Eden” by those of the “can’t do” persuasion, however I feel we need to get behind the council’s “can do” attitude.

The idea of a toll on the Beachy Head road is a great idea, this provides an obvious benefit to the town from visitors who don’t come into the town itself.

Annemarie Field objects to the idea citing a grieving family who have come to lay flowers at Beachy Head being served a penalty notice.

Really? I’ve a feeling we could come up with a sensitive and pragmatic solution for this unusual situation rather than put a stop to the town moving forward.

Whether it’s being charged to enter a village (Clovelly), or use a road (17 mile drive, Monterrey), the experience has always been great and I’ve been happy to pay for something special.

Let’s keep moving forward as a town.
