I was interested to read the letter from Alan Cooper about the sad story of Carol Lawry, killed by German bombing in 1940 when a bomb fell just outside Bobby’s Store (later Debenhams).

I thought readers may like to learn more about this and other similar accounts by looking on the website of Our Lady of Ransom RC Church and clicking on “Eastbourne at War”.

This deals with more than 80 people, military and civilian, who had an association with the parish of Our Lady of Ransom and who died in the two World Wars.

A memorial to them was erected in 2018 inside the church.
