Eastbourne, this isn’t the way to do recycling!

Last Friday brought a classic example of a dysfunctional local council.

On the one hand we’re being told our recycling rates are dreadful – well under 40 per cent – and collection schedules may have to change as a result.

On the other, I’ve just learnt that our green recycling bin will not be collected for four weeks over the Christmas period (December 11 to January 8)!

We’re promised extra bags will be collected on January 8 – if they haven’t been ripped open before then by foxes or gulls, and their contents spread everywhere!

The council should be taking every opportunity to promote recycling – this isn’t the way to do it!
