Collyer’s welcome Spanish visitors

The students attend top Spanish school Instituto Cristobal Lozano in Hellin, close to Alicante on the east coast of Spain.

The group started its week in the UK with a visit to the Houses of Parliament and then Horsham District Council’s Chamber, as part of the students’ education to find out about how local government works in different countries.

The Chairman of the Council, Cllr Philip Circus, kindly welcomed the group and led a special presentation ceremony.

Margarita Mortimer, Head of Spanish at Collyer’s, was ecstatic: “We are always pleased to welcome our Spanish exchange students because it’s such a good opportunity for them to experience life in England as well as practise their language skills.

“The Collyer’s students and their families have been very accommodating and visiting Horsham District Council and being so warmly welcomed by the Chairman was a fantastic experience for all of us.”

Jesus Gonzalez, accompanying teacher for the Spanish students, added: “This fabulous experience provides a better understanding of customs, history and culture, so it is a good way to elaborate a modern European citizenship.”

The students continued their educational week with visits to the Horsham Museum, Brighton and spent time with local students and their families in Horsham.

Collyer’s Principal, Dr Jackie Johnston, said: “The exchange is an important part of learning for the Collyer’s and Instituto Cristobal Lozano students and I’m very happy that they have all thoroughly enjoyed the visit.”
