Clock's facelift will be 'all in good time'

I AM grateful to Mr Benham (Gazette letters, April 3) for drawing readers' attention to the condition of the clock in the tower at St Mary's Church, and assure him that its need of a facelift has not been overlooked!

We are in the process of a programme of restoration of the church building.

Over the last few years the heating system has been renewed, a large section of the roof replaced and most recently the church has been rewired and new lighting installed.

Urgent repairs to another part of the church roof will be carried out in the next few weeks.

All this work has been costly '“ the congregation has raised and spent some 150,000 so far.

I should be delighted if any readers felt they would like to contribute towards the cost of refurbishing the clock faces.

Cheques sent to me at the Church Office, Church Street, Littlehampton BN17 5EN would be very gratefully received.

Fr Roger Caswell, vicar, St Mary's Littlehampton
