Until some members of our society become less irresponsible, selfish and thoughtless and more responsible, caring and thoughtful, the use of mobile phones while driving will remain a problem.

Sussex Police Chief Constable believes the increase of points loss to six and fine to £200 is a landmark event.

Police working in other forces believe it will have little effect without the necessary resources to enforce it.

They suggest the money from the fines would generate the funds to help enforcement and should go directly to the police rather than going into the large government general pot. Is that the large government pot from which MPs’ expenses are paid I wonder?

The AA say that 22 lives are known to have been lost last year on the roads as a result of the use of mobile phone while driving.

People, who have lost loved ones as a result of mobile use, may well feel drivers caught using a mobile phone while driving should receive an immediate ban from driving and that the time for gentle smacking of the hands is over.
