Beware another blurred vision

ACCORDING to "Littlehampton Times", the booklet produced by the Littlehampton Town Centre Action Group, the Littlehampton Vision Group has Railway Wharf in its sights for permitted redevelopment; apparently this would be a site for "mixed commercial and residential use".

Now, where have I heard this before? Wasn't this the "vision" we were sold for the East Bank?

We were promised small workshops, with living accommodation above, so that employment would be maintained in that area.

The result is, in this large complex, there are just three properties with garage-type doors but no sign that they are used as work places.

Indeed, one property was briefly on the market and described as having a garage.

I urge the Vision Group to beware Greeks bearing gifts.

In addition, if, as no doubt will happen, Railway Wharf is redeveloped, I would like to reiterate my concerns of March, 2000, in a letter to this newspaper.

Repairs to Railway Wharf in 1999 were financed by Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council and Littlehampton Harbour Board; in other words, local taxpayers.

I hope there was a clause in this financial arrangement that, should permission be granted for redevelopment of Railway Wharf within a certain time of the repairs, the cost of those repairs would be repaid to us through the councils.
