The weather forecast for Sunday, June 23, had given the organisers of quite a bit of worry, but on the day we were very lucky as the heavy showers that were expected did not materialise and the 450 people who turned up for an enjoyable afternoon of traditional entertainment were not to be disappointed.

The Fete was formally opened at 1.30pm by Piers Calvert of Holmbush whose late grandfather, Major E Calvert, had opened the Golden Jubilee Fete in 2003.

This year it was the Diamond Jubilee – 60 years since the hall was rebuilt after having been destroyed by enemy action in 1940.

With pony rides, bouncy castle, a magic show, face painting, balloon race, a coconut shy, and many more stalls of both luck and skill, there was absolutely no chance that anyone would get bored, least of all the children!

During the afternoon there was a magic show for the children given by Dave the Magician and pupils from Colgate Primary School gave a lovely display of County Dancing. Once again this year we were entertained throughout with some great music by local band, The Jazz Trio.

We would like to thank all our wonderful sponsors who support us so well every year and all those who worked so hard on the day to make it such a success, and to raise the fantastic sum of £3500 towards the village hall maintenance fund.
