LETTER: Court closure a big mistake

With reference to the proposed closure of Eastbourne's Magistrates' Court, it is noted that our current MP has made a gesture of dissent to the Ministry of Justice (a misnomer surely?).

Closure of this facility, which appears to be the last such remaining between Brighton and Hastings, will said to have been done to achieve economies. The result will rather be an explosion of costs due to ferrying witnesses, police, solicitors etc to either Hastings or Brighton.

Justice will not be served and the accused, whether guilty or not, will be greatly inconvenienced by additional travel. Disruption is only to be expected due to the time necessary to reach either alternative destination, with resulting escalating additional expenditure necessitated.
