LETTER: Add a modicum of realism

Can we assume from the number of local councillors pictured in the Middy re-cycling announcements about coming goodies for Burgess Hill that there is an election coming up.

I am sure that most of us would really welcome the new schools, doctors surgeries, science park, business park, major infrastructure improvements, top quality retailers etc which are frequently announced but after several years of these promises we would prefer to see some action.

The current reality is pot-holed roads, a run down town centre, head teachers warning of possible reductions of teaching hours, major cuts to social care services, less grounds maintenance, a planning system in chaos, Woodlands Mead special school sold down the river and no proper disabled toilets. Last year’s promise about the replacement of the “unsafe” bumpy bridge has also now been scrapped.

I do realise that this is electioneering but perhaps we could have it tempered by a modicum of realism.
