OFFICE CAR CRASH: 'He just lost it on the bend'

A CAR smashed through the front window of an accountants.

The driver of a silver Mazda is thought to have lost control because of slippery conditions and ploughed through the front of Tasker Boxall and Co in South Way, Newhaven, at around 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday).

A person sitting by the office window had moved just moments before the impact.

Mandie Reed, who owns Mandies Hair Studio next door, said: 'Basically it looks as though the car came round the bend and I think the mist was just coming down which made the road slippery.

'The police reckon he was only doing about 35 mph but he just lost it on the bend and went straight into the front of next door.

'Nobody was hurt, they were in there but the guy working behind the window had moved at that moment.

'As far as I know the driver was not hurt either and I couldn't believe the car, there was barely a mark on it.'

Police closed the road to one lane for more than three hours.

Traffic was backed up to Seaford railway station.

Stephen Pilfold, of Hawthorn Rise, said: 'It took me over and hour to get from Seaford station.

'The road was coned so it was reduced to one lane.'

A police spokesman said: 'We got the call at 4.30pm to say a vehicle had struck a wall.

'He wasn't hurt and no one else was injured.

'The local council building inspector was called to assess the damage and make the area safe.

'The road was re-opened at 7.30pm.'
