Wassail: Well that was a bit of fun! In a gap in the downpours on Saturday, a motley crew gathered at Quarry Farm, Bodiam to protect the year's apple crop by making a lot of noise and drinking cider. Not sure how authentic it all was, but it's always good to keep up an historical tradition (however dubious!)

Boot Sale: Northiam Village Hall Trust’s final indoor Boot sale of the year will be held on Sunday 12th March. Call Marie Edwards (01797 253264) to book a table.

Messy Church: And another month has passed, so it’s time for Messy Church again! Apart from thinking about the time of lent, families will be preparing Messy Church’s exhibit for the Horticultural Society’s Spring Show – coming soon.

Toddlers: Northiam Tadpoles baby & toddler group meet every Tuesday 9.15 - 11.15am at Pretious Sports Hall, Main Street (the hall between the primary school and nursery.) The session is £2.50 per family (to cover costs) for age 0-5’s which includes a healthy snack for the children, drinks and biscuits for the parents/carers, there are lots of toys out for all ages and finishes with song time.

Footpath Group: Leave Northiam surgery car park at 9am on Wednesday to join the Footpath Group for a walk in Bilsington. A moat, a canal and two churches are offered, followed by a pub lunch. Spring is here!

Coffee & Chat: Each Wednesday morning there is Coffee Stop in the Church Centre – just an opportunity to stop and chat over a cuppa. All very welcome.

Lent Course: The Diocesan Lent course continues on Wednesdays at 2pm and 7.30pm. All welcome.

Thursday Seniors: Thursday Seniors’ Club meets every Thursday in Northiam Village Hall from 10.30am until 2.30pm. All pensioners are welcome, and free door to door transport can be arranged for anyone in Northiam, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Broad Oak if you are on the Rye Community Bus route. The cost is £7 and includes welcome tea/coffee, a freshly cooked 2 course meal, extend chair exercises and a talk/entertainment. Call Joan 252568, Jane 252973 or Linda 252283 to find out more as a member or a helper.

Bank: The NatWest mobile bank calls at the Village Hall car park each Thursday 1.15-2.15pm.

MP Surgery: Hugh Merriman, our MP, will be holding a local surgery on Friday 17th March in the Village Hall, 9.30-11am. He will be joined by Angharad Davies, our east Sussex County Councillor, and you are invited to go along to discuss any local problems, issues or areas of concern which you might have. Tea and biscuits will be provided.

Craft Fayre: The next Bonfire Society’s Craft Fayre will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday 18th March, with 35 stalls of varied, local crafts. There should be some inspiration for Mothers’ Day, or just a nice opportunity to browse and admire other people’s handiwork. Coffee, cake and bacon butties will sustain you!

Chitiwiri: As we take a critical look at our wardrobes in a quick burst of Spring Cleaning enthusiasm, there will, no doubt, be many items which never got worn this winter. Thankfully, there is another clothing collection for Chitiwiri due on 28th March, so all those unwanted items can be turned into lifesaving necessities in Malawi. If you would like to donate any unwanted items of clothing, household linens, toiletries or soft toys, please take them to Forge House. They will be much appreciated.

Quiz: Time for another chance to pit our wits against each other! The Bowls Club will be holding their popular annual Quiz Night on Saturday 1st April. Teams are for 8 people, and entry is £78.50 to include a fish and chip (etc) supper. John Taylor ios the man to contact – 253549. See you there!
