New Year Leap

TAKING a giant leap forward into the River Arun on a cold New Year s Day was a group of hardy divers.

Between 15 and 20 divers, wearing colourful costumes, took part in the annual Littlehampton Leap, which this year has raised an estimated 2,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre in Southwick.

Among those taking part was Burkhand Becker, who had been looking forward to coming to the town from Germany, to take part in the event, now in its 21st year.

Arun Divers diving officer Terry Monnery helped organise this year s event and reported no streakers jumping from the footbridge this time."

He said: "One person got down to their underwear, but decided not to strip off any further maybe it was too cold!"
